DaySpring Resident Celebrates 100th Birthday!

Maxine was born on June 29, 1911 in Collegeport, Texas on Matagorda Bay. Her family moved across the bay to Palacios, Texas when she was 2 years old for her father to join his brother in the lumberyard business. She lived there until she married.

Maxine graduated from Palacios High School and went to John Tarleton Junior College in Stephenville, Texas. At that time Tarleton was a military college and Maxine was a sponsor of the Company C Army Troupe. She graduated from Tarleton and enrolled in Sam Houston University in Huntsville, Texas.

While Maxine was away in college, a young seminary student by the name of Carroll Ray arrived to pastor the First Baptist Church of Palacios. Although the Price family were Presbyterian, Maxine stole the heart of this Baptist preacher. They were married at 9am on Sunday morning, November 13, 1932 in the Baptist church. It was said that Carroll would do anything to draw a crowd to his church. Carroll borrowed $25 from the bank to pay for their honeymoon and they spent two wonderful nights in San Antonio. The rest of the week was spent with family members in the Uvaide-Del Rio area.

Carroll was a pastor in different churches all over the state of Texas for the next fifty years. Maxine still receives cards, letters and phone calls from friends in churches where they served. She was a faithful helper, dedicated prayer warrior and mother of their three children.

When Carroll retired from the pastorate, the two moved to Burleson, Texas and became tour escorts for Dan Dipert Bus Tours. For the next ten years, the two of them traveled all over the United States and Canada. They also traveled through Europe and Mexico with family.

Carroll and Maxine had been married for 72 years when Carroll passed away in October of 2004. At that time, Maxine moved to DaySpring Assisted Living to be close to her daughter who lives in Allen.

The loves of her life are Maxine’s 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandaughter.

Maxine celebrated 100 happy and fruitful years of life on June 29, 2011.
