Meet Truman Rives!

DaySpring is so excited to introduce a new feature to our blog! Each month we will be featuring the life story of one of our very special residents. This month we are happy to share the story of Truman Rives.

Truman was born and reared in Wichita Falls, Texas where he graduated in 1944. He was married to the love of his life, Lou Ella for 66 years.

Truman faithfully served in the Navy on the LSD U.S.S Epping Forest during World War II. Upon completing his service to our great country, he enrolled in college and eventually founded his own business, Truman Rives Plumbing Company. His business proudly served the residents of Wichita Falls for 47 years. Truman was listed as an Honored Professional in 1996-1997 National Directory of Who’s Who in the Executive and Professionals. He also served as the President of the National Association of Plumbing Contractors local chapter.

Not only was Truman a well-respected businessman he was a loving husband, father, and provider. He built two of his family’s homes and a cabin on Lake Diversion.
He is an accomplished member of the Boy Scouts of America. He earned Eagle, Bronze, Gold and Silver Palms and he was awarded the Good Deed Award for providing plumbing for Perkins Boy Scout Camp.

Truman’s faith has always been very important to him. He attended West Side Baptist and served the Lord faithfully through various ministries. One of his favorites pastimes was coaching softball for various church leagues.

His love of sports was reflected in his lifelong membership to the Wichita Falls High School Coyotes Booster Club. In fact, his loyalty was rewarded when they dedicated the 1969 State Championship to him.

Truman was also and avid hunter and fisherman. He had a deer lease near Lampasas on the James River for four decades. He is a true outdoorsman and loves spending time with nature.
In retirement he loved to garden and was known to grow okra stalks 15 feet tall! Friends and neighbors enjoyed the fruits of his labor immensely as he was known to share fresh vegetables from his garden as well as a huge crop of pecans every fall.

Truman is a vital part of our community at DaySpring and is a great blessing to us. We are so thankful for his friendship.
